I give each student a baggie of M&M’s and a sheet of graph paper. First they generate questions that can be asked and answered like ‘How many red?’ ‘What percent of the total are red?’ or I give them a pre designed worksheet with questions to answer. They graph by placing the candy on the graph to form bars. When they’ve answered all questions then they can eat their manipulatives! ( Hopefully not the graph paper!)
