Using paper, have the students cut out rectangular shapes that have the same perimeter but different shapes. Using tape, the students should form these into an open ended cylinder and place them upright on their desks. With styrofoam packing peanuts or other light weight objects, have the students find the basic volume (in packing peanuts measurement) for each type of cylinder. Discuss how the volume changes when different lengths and widths of paper are used.
