Money is the most popular thing in our every-day lives that uses decimals. Create various items that are worth various amounts in cents. Have the students display those amounts in decimal form. Then have them see how many things they can buy by adding the decimals together. Shake things up a bit by having a 1/2 off sale on some of the items. The students must find 1/2 or .46 (for example). This will give practice using both fractions and decimals.
