A great way for kids to learn about 2 and 3 dimensional shapes is to actually build them first. I like using toothpicks and mini marshmallows. The marshmallow will hold the angles together. Have the student build everything from a triangle up to a nonagon (or beyond!) Then, have the students trace their shape using a ruler. Then draw freehand. Discuss what each shape is called.
