Using blocks or graph paper, have the students construct several various shapes that have the same perimeter measurement by countint the squares. Explain how the perimeter can stay the same, but the area it encloses changes. For a more hands-on approach, have the students construct a large shape in the middle of the floor by each placing a square sheet of paper. Discuss the perimeter measurement and how it can be changed.
